A legendary Dublin swimming circle braving the Irish Sea year-round. An incredibly welcoming community of daily sea-swimming enthusiasts gathering to kickstart the day, always followed by coffee and chats.
When and where
Forty Foot Sea Swimmers meets every morning at sunrise / 7:30 AM. It meets at The Forty Foot, Sandycove, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, Co. Dublin.
Times and venues do move, particularly at the start of a new season and around bank holidays, so it is worth confirming the next date with the group before travelling.
What to expect
Forty Foot Sea Swimmers is an open water swimming group. Water temperature around the Irish coast runs from roughly 8 degrees in late winter to the mid teens in late summer, so acclimatisation matters more than distance. Regulars swim short and get out.
Never swim alone, tell someone your plan, and go with the group rather than meeting them in the water. A bright cap and a tow float make you visible to boats. Some swimmers use a wetsuit and some do not; both are normal.
Conditions decide everything here. Wind, swell and water temperature can call a swim off at short notice, so check with the group before travelling.
Who it suits
Swimmers comfortable in open water, and beginners willing to start short and build up with people who know the spot.
