The short version
meetups.ie is a static directory of community groups. There are no user accounts, no advertising, and the only tracking script we run is Google Analytics, which counts visits and sets cookies to do it. We do not sell or share anything about you and we do not build profiles of individuals. You can browse the entire site without giving us anything.
What we collect directly
Only what you type into the submission form at meetups.ie/submit, and anything you choose to put in an email to us. If you submit a listing, we use the details you give to publish it and, if something is unclear, to come back to you about it. If you email us, we keep the message for as long as we need to deal with it.
Please do not put personal information in a listing that you would not want published. A listing is a public page, and the venue, timing and contact details you supply appear on it.
Third parties involved in running the site
- Cloudflare Pages hosts the site. Like any web host it processes your IP address and request details in order to serve pages and to protect against attack and abuse.
- Google Fonts serves the two typefaces the site uses. Your browser requests those font files directly from Google, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
- Tally provides the embedded form on the submission page. That form is hosted by Tally, so anything you type into it is processed by Tally as well as reaching us. The form only loads on the submission page.
Listing pages link out to sites such as meetup.com, parkrun.ie, eventbrite.com and club websites. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's site under someone else's privacy policy, and we have no control over or visibility of what happens there.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets cookies in your browser and records the pages you view, your approximate location worked out from your IP address, and technical details such as your device type and browser. It does not collect your name, your address or anything else that identifies you personally, and we only use it to decide what to add to the directory next.
Google processes that data on our behalf under its own privacy policy. If you would rather not be counted, the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or any tracker-blocking extension will stop it, and nothing on the site stops working if you use one.
Cookies
The only cookies meetups.ie sets are the Google Analytics ones described above. Cloudflare may set a cookie strictly necessary for security and performance, and Tally may set cookies on the submission page as part of its form. There are no advertising cookies on any page.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you submitted a listing and want it amended or taken down, tell us and we will do it. Email info@meetups.ie for any of this.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Meaningful changes will be described here rather than slipped in quietly.
