When and where

Tigh Chóilí Trad Sessions meets Twice daily: Early evening (6:00 PM) and late evening (9:30 PM). It meets at Tigh Chóilí, Mainguard Street, Galway Latin Quarter, Co. Galway.

Times and venues do move, particularly at the start of a new season and around bank holidays, so it is worth confirming the next date with the group before travelling.

What to expect

Tigh Chóilí Trad Sessions is a session, not a gig. Musicians sit in a circle, usually in a corner of the room, and play tunes they all know. There is no stage, no admission charge and no set list.

If you play, the etiquette is to listen for a while before joining, come in on tunes you already know rather than starting your own, and follow whoever is leading. If you do not play, you are welcome to sit and listen, which is what most of the room is doing.

Sessions depend entirely on who turns up, so a quiet night with three players and a packed one with fifteen are both normal.

Who it suits

Musicians who want to play with others, and anyone who simply wants to sit and hear live traditional music without a ticket.
